ADHESIVE-TYPE LABELS - Printing Systems

COVERAGE:

Systems covered under this classification are considered "Listed" for label
Printing Systems. The Printing System specifies the stock material, ribbon and
type of printers (eg. dot matrix, thermal, etc.) used in the printing of labels
and nameplates. The Printing Systems have demonstrated compliance with the
requirements of CSA Standard C22.2 No 0.15-15, Adhesive Labels.

(NOTE: The terms "label" and "nameplate" may be used interchangeably.)

Printing Systems are acceptable for the types of surfaces and the conditions
of use specified, providing that they are applied in accordance with the
manufacturer’s instructions.

TYPES OF ADHESIVE LABELS:

There are two types of construction of labels or nameplates covered by C22.2
No 0.15-15, Adhesive Labels.

Type A: a permanent label that may be peeled off intact or may break up upon
peeling after exposure to certain environmental conditions.
Type B: a permanent label with a tamper evident mechanism that meets the
requirements of a Type A label and incorporates special features that indicate
tampering.

LABEL USE RATINGS:

Indoor Use; Outdoor Use; Special Use Application (optional)
Special use application (optional) includes special fluid exposure, plastic
application surfaces and high abrasion application.

APPLICATION SURFACES:

The Application Surface Groupings for which acceptance may be obtained for
are as follows:

  1.  Metals: Bare, plated, galvanized, painted, or anodized ferrous and
    non-ferrous metals
  2.  Powder coated Metals:
    (a) Polyester Powder Coat Paint
    (b) Acrylic Powder Coat Paint
    (c) Epoxy Powder Coat Paint
    (d) Polyurethane Powder Coat Paint
  3.  Plastics

Group I – Phenolics (PH), Melamines (MF,M/P); Urea-Formaldehydes (UF);
Group II – Polyphenylene oxides (PPHOX), Polyphenylene Sulphides (PPS);
Group III – Polycarbonates (PC), Acetates (CA, CAB), Acrylics (PMMA);
Group IV – Polypropylenes (PP), Polyethylenes (PE), Polybutylenes (PB);
Group V – Polyamides (PA), Polyimides (PI);
Group VI – Polystyrenes (PS), Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrenes (ABS), Styrene-Acrylonitriles
(SAN);
Group VII – Rigid and Plasticized Vinyls (PVC);
Group VIII – Unsaturated (thermoset) polyester (?fiberglass?), epoxy plastic,
polyethylene terephthalate, polybutylene terephthalate;

The Printing Systems have been the subject of an investigation to determine
their general suitability, but this does not constitute a certification, since
the final acceptance of a printing system is determined only on converted label
construction and the final application to an end product.

REQUIREMENTS:

CSA-C22.2 No. 0.15 Adhesive Labels

NOTES:

  1.  Adhesives protected by treated paper backings, that can be peeled
    off, are identified on the listing cards by 2 asterisks (**).
  2. Where the thickness or thickness range of the material is specified, the
    total thickness includes the adhesive and base material. It does not include
    the protective backing (or covering) on the adhesive.
  3.  Labels thicker than 0.05 mm (0.002 in) when being applied to
    curved surfaces may have to be pre-formed to fit the curvature before the
    adhesive is activated. The label manufacturer should be consulted in such
    cases.

MARKING:

Suppliers of the printing systems are required to mark each component package
of the printing system with the supplier’s name and product identification. The
CSA file number may appear on each component package.
