Agreement on Acceptance of Components
CSA Group and Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL)
To help address the needs of manufacturers, in 2003 CSA Group and UL established a collaborative process leading to the mutual acceptance of components* used in Low Voltage Distribution and Control Equipment.
Under this Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), each certification body has agreed to treat components certified by the other certification body the same way as it treats components it has certified itself. Each organization will authorize the use of its mark and require its follow-up service.
The scope of the MOU covers the component categories specified in Annex A https://www.csagroup.org/documents/testing-and-certification/components/ANNEXA.pdf when these components are used in the end products specified in Annex B https://www.csagroup.org/documents/testing-and-certification/components/ANNEXB.pdf or as a component in other Annex A products.
CSA Group and UL continue to look for joint opportunities to help assist manufacturers with their specific North American certification needs.
*For the purpose of this agreement, a component is any device that is a building block of an electrical product or another electrical component.
