Fuels & Transportation
Why CSA?

With a strong focus on the future, CSA Group develops leading and innovative standards to help advance fuels and clean transportation
Our portfolio of gas standards provide solutions for consumer & commercial appliances, installation codes, and energy efficiency standards that include natural gas, propane & oil burning appliances, gas components & accessories, biofuels, solid fuel-burning equipment, propane storage & handling, heat meters, and carbon monoxide detectors. Our portfolio also includes standards for the transportation industry that provide guidance on best practices for using alternative fuels & energies and related technology used for clean transportation around the world.
We have decades of experience developing harmonized codes & standards that meet the accreditation requirements of both the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). We have developed over 60 standards through a CSA binational process with committee members representing Canada and the U.S.
An important resource for gas & propane industry workers across Canada, CSA B149.1 – Natural Gas and Propane Installation Code reflects the latest advances in technology and the most current safety requirements. The Code has been reviewed by regulatory authorities across Canada, and is adopted into law in every Canadian province and territory.
Future-focused organizations turn to CSA Group for standards development in fuels and transportation, including regulatory bodies and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ) in Canada and the United States, as well as:
- The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM)
- The Air Conditioning Heating and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI)
- The Hearth Patio and Barbeque Association (HPBA)
- The Energy Future Coalition (EFC)
- Natural Gas Vehicles for America (NGV America)
- The Canadian Natural Gas Vehicle Alliance (CNGVA)
Many of our standards are referenced in legislation, such as CSA B149 - Natural Gas and Propane Installation Code and CSA B139 - Installation Code for Oil Burning Equipment. We have also pioneered standards on emerging topics, including hydrogen standards harmonized for Canada and the United States, compressed natural gas, liquefied natural gas, propane gas for vehicles, and more.
