PROGRAM TYPE:

Products listed in this category are on Label Service and
available only from CSA Group and are applied at the factory, unless specific
approval has been granted under the CSA Label Licensing Service.

COVERAGE:

Ladders covered by this Standard are intended for use by only one person at a
time under normal conditions of usage, with the exception of trestle ladders,
which are designed for use by two persons at the same time.

This Standard
covers single-section ladders, multiple-section ladders, trestle ladders, step
ladders, step stools, tri-pod ladders, combination ladders, platform ladders,
articulated ladders, and telescoping ladders, but does not cover ladder
accessories (e.g., ladder levellers, ladder stabilizers or stand-off devices,
ladder jacks, or ladder straps or hooks) that can be installed on, or used in
conjunction, with ladders.

Ladders are classified as follows:

REQUIREMENTS:

CSA-Z11 Portable Ladders

MARKING:

Primary Marking

Markings that are legible and readily visible
shall, where possible and unless otherwise specified, be placed 1.4 to 1.8 m
(4.5 to 6 ft) from the bottom of the ladder. Ladders shall be marked in English
and French with at least the following information:

  • CSA Mark;
  •  manufacturer's name or registered trademark or logo, and/or CSA
    Master Contract number, or Legacy file LM number;
  •  Model designation;
  • date of manufacture;
  • nominal length;
  •  maximum extended length (where applicable);
  •  grade, and loading rating;

Hazard Warnings

For ladders constructed of conductive material, distinctive and contrasting
labels warning of electrical contact hazards shall be affixed to the ladder to
warn users of electrical contact and danger of falling from unsafe practice.
This label should be placed on each side rail between the fifth and the sixth
rung:

Additional Markings

  • additional marking as may be required, such as safety cautions, in words
    and symbols as specified in Standard Z11.

Note: CSA does not supply Standard Ladder labels, only Combination labels.
