FACTORY CONSTRUCTED BUILDINGS AND STRUCTURES - Commercial/Industrial Structures For Electrical Features Only

COVERAGE:

Commercial and Industrial buildings and similar structures, manufactured in
compliance with Part 10 of the Alberta Building Code or Part 9 of the National
Building Code of Canada as Provincially and Territorially amended. These
buildings and structures are manufactured in a central facility, complete with
electrical wiring, for installation or connection to other modules in the field.
These structures are usually used as construction camp facilities, field
offices, shops used in conjunction with industrial construction and other
commercial or industrial buildings. CSA certification covers the factory
installed electrical services only, and is intended to obviate the necessity for
further inspection in the factory by the local electrical regulatory authorities
except for the field service connection and any interconnections between modules
which may be done in the field and are subject to permits and inspections by the
local authorities having jurisdiction.

CONDITIONS & LIMITATIONS:

  1.  For Commercial/Industrial units manufactured in compliance with
    Part 10 of Alberta Building Code;
    a) CSA certification covers the electrical features of structures that
    provide accommodations for commercial/industrial work forces living and/or
    working in temporary locations. It also applies to Group D and Group F,
    Division 3 occupancies for work force working in temporary location.
    b) Buildings and structures covered are:
    i- Single or Multiple Modules in Single or Two Storey Configurations;
    ii- Single storey without sleeping accommodation that is not more than 1,200
    m m2 in building area, and not more than 2,400 m2 if sprinklered;
    iii- Single storey with sleeping accommodation that is not more than 600 m2
    in building area, and not more than 1,200 m2 if sprinklered;
    iv- Two storey without sleeping accommodation that is not more than 600 m2
    in building area, and not more than 1,200 m2 if sprinklered; and
    v- Two storey with sleeping accommodation that is not more than 300 m2 in
    building area, and not more than 600 m2 if sprinklered.
  2.  For Commercial/Industrial units manufactured in compliance with
    Part 9 of the National Building Code of Canada as Provincially and
    Territorially amended; CSA certification covers the electrical features of
    buildings and structures that are 3 storeys or less in building height,
    having a building area not exceeding 600 m2 used as construction camp
    facilities and/or classified as Group D, Group E and Group F, Divisions 2&3.
  3.  The maximum Electrical ratings of buildings/structures covered by
    this certification are:
    a- 600 Vac, Single phase or 3-phase (Examples: 120/240; 120/208, 240,
    277/480; 347/600 V);
    b- 60Hz.;
    c- 2000 Amp.; and
    d- 24 Vdc.
  4. Manufacturers who build Commercial/Industrial units in compliance with
    Part 10 of Alberta Building Code shall have all their quality management
    personnel complete the Part 10 course offered by the Safety Codes Council
    (Course ID 100135, "Building, Group A1 (r), Part 10 Relocatable Industrial
    Accommodation").
  5.  This certification program does not include modular or
    manufactured (mobile) homes nor does it include vehicular lighting or brake
    wiring systems.
  6.  Verifications of Fire Alarm System, Sprinkler System and Fire
    Suppression Systems are not part of this certification.
  7. This certification program does not include the 6 or 12V battery
    operated system for clearance lights etc. which is entirely separate from
    the 120V system comes under the jurisdiction of the Departments of Highways
    of the various Provinces.

REQUIREMENTS:

CSA A277 Procedure for Certification of Prefabricated Buildings, Modules, and
Panels

MARKING:
All marking required by CSA must be permanent, legible, and located where
readily accessible for review after assembly of the unit, except as permitted
otherwise. The CSA label is normally located on or near the electrical panel and
the rest of the required information near the external point of electrical
supply. Certain jurisdictions in Canada require the use of French language in
markings. It is the manufacturer's responsibility to determine where this is
required. Each unit shall be marked with the followings:

i) CSA Label Material # 1002027 for Commercial/Industrial Structures – For
Electrical Features Only label.
ii) External Marking:

Each building module conforming to Part 10 of the Alberta Building Code shall
be clearly and permanently identified with a plate affixed to the module in a
location that is visible when the unit is complexed or standing alone showing
the following information:

a) the date of construction,
b) the name of the constructor
c) the address of the constructor
d) the model number and serial number, and
e) the structural and mechanical design parameters

iii) Interior Markings:

The following information shall be marked in English and French in a
permanent and readily visible manner in the interior of each unit:

a) the manufacturer?s name and address;
b) the model, serial number, product code and part number as applicable;
c) the date of manufacture;
d) a statement indicating that construction was carried out in a factory;
e) as applicable, the code(s) and standards met by the building;
f) as applicable, a list of components, assemblies and systems to be completed
on site;
g) the complete electrical rating (voltage, frequency, input current);
h) a list of the appliances that are factory-installed in the unit showing make,
model and type of energy used (oil, gas, electric, wood);
i) additional markings as may be required; and
j) The following caution:

The marking method consists of a CSA COMMERCIAL/INDUSTRIAL STRUCTURES FOR
ELECTRICAL FEATURES ONLY label together with a specification nameplate or
equally permanent marking bearing the rest of the required information.
