PROGRAM TYPE:

Products listed in this category are on Label Service unless specific
approval has been issued under the CSA Label Licensing Service.

COVERAGE:

Single conductor and multi-conductor (round, parallel and flat types) with
optional coverings, jackets and shields, insulation of thermoset, thermoplastic
and composite materials for use in the internal wiring of equipment and for
interconnection application only.

The construction may include twisted, laminated, fused, solvent bonded, rip,
non-rip, double insulated, composite, single- or multiple-shielded constructions
etc.

These wires are not for use for connecting to the source of supply of
electricity (branch circuits), but may be used for interconnection between
pieces of equipment when permitted by a Canadian electrical code.

This category does not include wires that are Certified to other CSA
published standards.

REQUIREMENTS:

CSA-C22.2 No. 0 General Requirements – Canadian Electrical Code, Part II
CSA C22.2 No. 210 Appliance Wiring Material Products

MARKING:

Required:

  • submittor's identification;
  •  "AWM";
  •  Class (I or II);
  •  Group (A, B or AB);
  •  temperature rating;
  •  voltage rating;
  •  flame classification.

Optional:

  • Conductor size (AWG of kcmil);
  •  Number of conductors (for multi-conductor constructions);
  •  Low temperature rating (where rated below -15?C);
  •  "Wxx", where "xx" is the wet temperature rating;
  •  "O" or "Oil Resistant" where applicable;
  •  "F" or "Fuel Resistant" where applicable.

On reels, spools, coils and packages:

  • submittor's identification;
  •  date code;
  •  conductor size "AWG or kcmil" and size and number of conductors;
  •  type of conductor (if other than uncoated copper);
  •  class (I or II) and group (A, B or A/B);
  •  temperature and voltage rating;
  •  wet or oil where applicable;
  •  for Class I constructions "LIMITED USE FOR INTERNAL WIRING OF
    ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT AND APPLIANCES".

The marking method consists of a CSA Equipment Wire and Cable Label on a tag
attached to each reel, spool or coil, together with printing, embossing or
equally permanent marking on the conductors and printing or permanent ink
stamping or equally permanent marking on the tag.
