TEMPERATURE-INDICATING AND REGULATING EQUIPMENT - For Hazardous Locations

COVERAGE:

Controls such as room and appliance thermostats and temperature-actuated
devices for use in heating, cooling, refrigeration, motor control and similar
applications, including recording type controls. Controls intended for use as
ultimate safety devices or as combination operating and safety devices are
subject to additional investigation and identified in the individual submittor's
listing.

This category does not include devices examined for their performance
capabilities. See equipment list.

NOTES:

  1.  For details of equipment ratings refer to the declaration sheet
    (DS);
  2.  Model numbers on guide cards are shown as a block of digits to
    indicate the submittor's model designation, followed by a letter indicating
    the number of endurance operations, followed by a block of digits to
    indicate the max temperature in degrees celsius.
  3. The endurance cycle code is A=6000, B=30,000, C=l0,000, D=l00,000,
    E=250,000.

Other notes applicable to specific devices or submittors are detailed in the
individual submittor's listing.

MARKING:

All marking required by CSA must be permanent, legible and located where
readily accessible for review after assembly of the equipment, except as
permitted otherwise. The contents consist of:

  • submittor's identification;
  •  model designation or equivalent;
  •  complete electrical rating;
  •  applicable hazardous locations Class, Group and sometimes
    Division. Equipment not marked to indicate a Division, or marked "Division
    1" or "Div 1" is certified for both Divisions 1 and 2 locations. Equipment
    marked "Division 2" or "Div 2" is certified only for Division 2 locations;
  •  date code or equivalent;
  •  cautionary statements;
  •  additional markings as may be required by the applicable Standards
    for specific models or usages;
  •  CSA Mark.

The marking method consists of a data plate or plates or equally permanent
marking applied at the factory.
