Clean transportation and energy

Learn how codes and standards can support safe, reliable, and efficient renewable gas pathways.
Standards help advance hydrogen for clean transportation and energy
Clean fuels will play a critical role in meeting commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve a net-zero economy by 2050. Hydrogen has the potential to decarbonize many sectors of the world economy, including freight and transportation.
CSA Group has been a leader in hydrogen standards for transportation and fuel cells for more than 20 years. Over this period, CSA Group technical committees developed an extensive portfolio of standards that help advance hydrogen and hydrogen fuel cells as viable options for clean transportation and energy, including:
- the first North American fuel cell standard, published in 1998
- safety standards for hydrogen vehicles and hydrogen fuelling stations
- standards for on-site fuelling station testing methods
CSA Group’s standards continue to evolve with technological advancements in the field to support Canada’s Hydrogen Strategy and facilitate harmonization across North America. Through research and stakeholder engagement, CSA Group is also exploring the use of hydrogen as an alternative energy solution for marine, rail, and aviation transportation applications.
