Overview

Certain Lochinvar Condensing Gas Boilers and Condensing Gas Combi Boilers recalled due to risk of carbon monoxide poisoning

Recall Information
Health Canada – RA-72879

This recall involves certain condensing gas boilers and condensing gas combi boilers manufactured between approximately August 16, 2016 and May 28, 2019. All units sold by Lochinvar to Canadian customers were Lochinvar branded. The brand, model number and serial number can be found on the data plate on the unit located either on the exterior left side of the jacket or the inside of the removable front jacket panel.

Hazard: The boiler’s flue grommet can deteriorate and dislodge during use, and allow the boiler to emit carbon monoxide, posing a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

The recalled units contain a silicone flue grommet which is fitted through a small hole in the flue pipe and seals and holds a temperature sensor to the flue pipe. Over time, it may be possible for the silicone material to break down and fall from the mounting hole in the flue pipe. If this occurs, the vacant mounting hole allows flue gases to escape, posing a risk of exposure to carbon monoxide.

As of June 16, 2020, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada. In the United States, the company has received 7 reports of boiler’s flue grommets deteriorating, including 1 report of 2 nonfatal injuries involving carbon monoxide poisoning, and 2 reports of carbon monoxide emission not involving an injury.

Number sold:   Approximately 3,642 units of the affected product were sold in Canada and approximately 34,300 were sold in the United States.

Time period sold:   The affected products were sold from August 2016 to June 2020.
