CSA Group Utilizes Competencies for Training and Development Professionals to Enhance Training Services for Global Clients

CSA Group, a leading provider of standards development, training and advisory solutions, global product testing and certification, and product performance evaluation, today announces it is applying the Canadian Society for Training and Development (CSTD) Competencies for Training and Development Professionals as the standards of practice for CSA Group’s workplace learning and development professionals.

“Continuous Learning is one of CSA Group’s key corporate values and it is tied directly to our success as a global organization committed to safety and sustainability” said Rob Rashotte, Director of Learning Services, CSA Group. “Our Learning Services Centre has a dedicated team of certified training and development professionals to help our clients understand and apply our standards. The Competencies for Training and Development Professionals will serve as an excellent benchmark for our professional training staff to better assess their performance and to identify specific opportunities to strengthen skills and ensure quality service to our clients.”

The Canadian Society for Training and Development (CSTD) developed the competencies to provide a framework for the design and development of curricula and courses in workplace training and development. The competencies are divided into five categories: Assessing performance needs, designing training, facilitating training, supporting the transfer of learning, and evaluating training. It serves as a model and reference standard of practice that organizations adhere to for all those who work in training and development across an organization.

“Organizations that have adopted the competencies recognize that learning is a process, not an event,” said Lynn Johnston, President CSTD. “Effective transfer of learning is crucial to the success of all training design and delivery. Specific standards to support the transfer of learning back on the job are a key indicator for positive business impact and return on investment.”
