CSA Group Announces Michael Keen as the 2012 Recipient of the Prestigious John Jenkins Award

CSA Group, a leading standards-based solutions organization, today officially announces Mr. Michael Keen, P. Eng., MBA, of Toronto, Ontario, as the recipient of the 2012 John Jenkins Award. The award is CSA Group’s most prestigious honour, bestowed upon the person who is judged to have rendered distinguished service in the development, advancement, and application of voluntary standards.

The 2012 John Jenkins Award was presented to Mr. Keen by Bob Cook, Chairman of the Board, CSA Group, at a special awards ceremony held during the CSA Group Annual Conference in Quebec City, Quebec. The award recognizes Michael Keen’s leadership, valued innovation and passionate commitment to quality, efficiency and safety in health care facilities.

“Michael Keen has demonstrated unparalleled leadership to safer practices, healthier environments and improved patient outcomes over the course of 16 years on CSA Group healthcare facility committees,” says Bonnie Rose, President, Standards. “His pursuit of excellence in the realm of healthcare is exemplified through his participation as Chair of Standards Technical Committee for Healthcare Facilities, as well as Chair of the new CSA Z8000 Standard for Health Care Facilities, both of which hope to positively impact the future of Canadian medical care. His dedication to standards development serves as a true inspiration to his fellow health care committee members and indeed to all those committed to the improvement of the communities in which we live.”

Mr. Keen is the past Chair for the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Technical Committee 9.6 for Healthcare. He has also been an inspired spokesperson for CSA Group and health care facility engineering standards in general.

Previously Mr. Keen was the Director of Engineering and Plant Services at St. Michael’s Hospital, the third largest hospital in Toronto. In 2005 he took on the role of Project Director of the Planning Department; a role which he has maintained since. Under this portfolio, Mr. Keen helped lead the successful development and construction of the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute, which was the backdrop for the official launch CSA’s Z8000 Health Care Facilities standard.
