CSA International and Ideal Industries (Canada), Inc. Announce Voluntary Recall of Electrical Testers

CSA International, in co-operation with IDEAL INDUSTRIES (CANADA), INC. of Ajax, Ontario, has announced a voluntary recall of approximately 122,000 voltage and voltage/continuity testers manufactured by IDEAL in Canada and the U.S. The testers, which measure volts alternating current (VAC) and volts direct current (VDC), may pose a potential for a burn injury to the user.

IDEAL has received reports of the solenoid coil shorting out at higher voltages without warning and blowing the faceplate off the unit. There have been two reports of users suffering burns when these units have failed.

These products have been sold through electrical distributors, industrial distributors and home centers between December 1999 and July 2003.

Consumers should stop using the recalled testers immediately and contact IDEAL to receive a replacement tester.
