Over the last several years, the sharing economy has grown significantly. Many well-established industries have been transformed into new models built around the shared creation and consumption of goods and services. This fast-growing and constantly changing marketplace has prompted the need for the development of potential tools to help aid policy development and better protect consumers and industry alike. While some jurisdictions have made real progress in developing governance frameworks capable of responding to some sharing economy services, these efforts have often been limited and their results have often been insufficiently flexible to meet the needs of these evolving markets.

This report explores the potential for standards-based solutions that address the challenges and issues in the sharing economy.
