Preface
This is the eleventh edition of CSA B70, Cast iron soil pipe, fittings, and means of joining. It supersedes the previous editions published in 2006, 2002, 1997, 1991, 1986, 1978, 1974, 1971, 1963, and 1941.
This edition includes the following significant changes:
(a) addition of requirements for expansion joints; and
(b) revision of factory testing frequency.
This Standard is considered suitable for use for conformity assessment within the stated scope of the Standard.
This Standard was prepared by the Technical Committee on Cast Iron Soil Pipe, under the jurisdiction of the Strategic Steering Committee on Water Management Products, Materials, and Systems, and has been formally approved by the Technical Committee.
Scope
1.1
This Standard covers cast iron soil pipe, fittings, and means of joining for installation in gravity-flow plumbing systems inside and outside of buildings, above and below grade.
Note: Pipe and fittings that comply with this Standard are not universally compatible with pipe and fittings manufactured in accordance with ASTM A74 and ASTM A888.

In CSA standards, shall is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; should is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and may is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard.
