Preface
This new edition of CSA Standard Z275.2, Occupational Safety Code for Diving Operations, supersedes the first edition published in 1974. It is part of a Series of Standards on Diving and Caisson Systems, covering Hyperbaric Facilities, Occupational Diving, and Construction Work in Compressed Air.
This Standard is not intended for use as a diving or procedure manual. It is designed, however, to be inflexible in those matters which experience has shown are critical to the safety of the diver, yet be flexible in those areas where the responsibility and considered judgement of operators provide the highest degree of safety in specialized operations.
This Standard differs from the first edition in that the format of the Standard has been revised to list requirements common to all types of diving operations under Clause 3, General Requirements; and to stipulate specific requirements for SCUBA Diving systems in Clause 6, Surface-Supply Diving systems in Clause 7, and Deep Diving Systems in Clause 8. Diving equipment requirements have been revised (see Clause 5) to include open diving bells, submersible compression chambers, lock-out submersibles and. atmospheric diving systems.
Specific exposure tables and decompression schedules are not included in this Standard in view of the fact that a number of well tested and authoritative tables are available for use by divers and for adoption by the regulatory authorities.
The Committee has been assisted in the preparation of this Standard by a number of practising professional divers, physicians with experience in diving and in the medical supervision of divers, managers of companies specializing in construction involving diving operations, employers of divers in construction operation, members of the Defence and Civil Institute of Environmental Medicine and representatives of various federal and provincial regulatory authorities.
This Standard was prepared through the Subcommittee on Commercial Diving by the Technical Committee on Diving and Caisson Systems and was formally approved by this Committee and by the Standards Steering Committee on Occupational Safety Codes.
