Preface
This is the third edition of No. 142 of a series of Standards issued by Canadian Standards Association under Part II of the Canadian Electrical Code. It supersedes the previous editions published in 1981 and 1983.
The major changes incorporated in this new edition include the clarification and revision of some of the constructional and marking requirements in Clauses 4 and 5 respectively, the addition of a short circuit test in Clause 6.12 to determine whether a fire hazard will result from short circuiting an isolating transformer as specified in Items 3 and 4 of Table 3, and the conversion of the maximum allowable temperature rises to maximum allowable temperatures based on an ambient temperature of 25°C.

This Standard was prepared by a Subcommittee of the Technical Committee on Industrial Products under the jurisdiction of the Standards Steering Committee on CE Code, Part II, and was formally approved by these Committees.
Scope
1.1
This Standard applies to fixed equipment or accessories, or both, that utilizes signals to measure or control directly or indirectly an industrial process through a final control device (or devices) and is intended to be connected to supply circuits with voltages of 750 V and less, for use indoors or outdoors in nonhazardous locations in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.
Note: Some examples of equipment covered by this Standard are analogue and digital equipment such as indicating, integrating, and recording instruments, with or without a control function, as well as transmitters, transducers, analyzers, telemetry equipment, and programmable controllers.

This Standard does not apply to research and scientific laboratory equipment or equipment covered by other CSA Standards.
