Preface
This is the first edition of CSA EXP100, Information and communication technology (ICT) code for buildings. This Express Document (herein referred to as this Document) is not a consensus product; that is, it is not a standard, and it has not been formally reviewed or approved by a CSA Technical Committee.
The purpose of this Document is to provide guidance on the development of an ICT code for buildings.
This Document was prepared and reviewed by the Development Committee on ICT Code for Buildings.
Scope
1.1 Inclusions
This Document specifies the requirements for information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure and equipment operating to detect or cause a change, through the direct monitoring and/or control of a building’s real property equipment, assets, processes, and events. This Document applies to buildings, structures, and premises, including factory-built relocatable and non-relocatable structures.
This Document applies to office buildings, multi-unit residential, and institutional buildings like schools, convention centres, and healthcare facilities.
For office and multi-unit residential buildings, this Document applies to the ICT infrastructure that is associated only with the building systems (e.g., HVAC, Lighting, and CCTV).
For institutional buildings, this Document applies to the ICT infrastructure that is associated only with the building systems (e.g., HVAC, Lighting, and CCTV).
1.2 Exclusions
This Document does not cover the following:
a) tenant systems (e.g., FTP servers, printing, IP phones, HR systems) and the ICT infrastructure associated with them; and
b) healthcare systems (e.g., nurse call, oxygen supply system, CT scan, MRI, and other healthcare systems) and the ICT infrastructure associated with them.
Topics that will be addressed by the code include the operational performance, security and privacy, network topology, and physical environment.
1.3 Terminology
In this Document, shall is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the Document; should is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and may is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the Document.
Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material.
Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements.
Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application.
