This is the fourth edition of CSA Z76.1, Reclosable child-resistant packages.
It supersedes the previous editions published in 1999, 1990, and 1979.
This Standard is restricted to reclosable packages. Nonreclosable child-resistant packages are covered by CAN/CSA-Z76.2.
Scope
1.1 General
This Standard applies to packages for drugs and other substances in liquid or solid form that incorporate reclosable child-resistant features that restrict children's ability to gain access to the contents of the packages. Such packages include (but are not limited to) packages with a continuous-thread, lug-finish, or snap closure.
1.2 Requirements
This Standard includes requirements for the construction, performance, child-resistant effectiveness, younger-adult-use effectiveness, senior-adult-use effectiveness, and marking of child-resistant packages, and for the instructions to be provided with such packages.
1.3 Testing
This Standard specifies the minimum level of physical tests for ensuring that subsequent production lots comply with this Standard.
1.4 Nonreclosable child-resistant packages
This Standard does not apply to nonreclosable child-resistant packages or features.
