1.1 This Standard prescribes requirements for the classification and certification of chromium and chromium-nickel covered steel electrodes for shielded metal arc welding. This includes electrodes designated for welding heat-resistant steels containing more than 11% chromium and less than 50% nickel.
1.2 Electrodes specified in this Standard are classified according to the (a) chemical requirements of undiluted weld metal (Table 1); (b) electrode covering and the usability characteristics of the electrode (Table 2); and (c) mechanical properties of the weld metal, in the as-welded condition (Table 3).
1.3 Any electrode certified under one classification is not certified under any other classification.
Note: The classification system is explained in Clause A1.2 of Appendix A.
1.4 The values given in SI (metric) units are the standard. The inch/pound (Imperial) equivalents are given in parentheses and are for information only. In case of dispute, the metric values rule.
