Update #1 was published as notification that this is now a National Standard of Canada
Scope
1.1 This Standard specifies (a) general design requirements; (b) product marking and labelling; (c) test procedures; and (d) performance requirements for single-occupancy mobility aids that are intended to be transported in vehicles having a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of less than 7000 kg (15 500 lb) and equipped to accommodate occupants who are seated in a mobility aid. See also CSA Standard D409.
This Standard applies to a wide range of mobility aids such as manual and powered wheelchairs and scooters. Note: Where possible, the requirements of this Standard have been harmonized with Section 19 of Volume 1 of the ANSI/RESNA Wheelchair Standards and CSA Standard D409.
1.2 This Standard applies to mobility aids that are (a) transported in the forward-facing direction only; and (b) designed for persons with a body mass of 22 kg (48.5 lb) or more.
1.3 The provisions of this Standard are specific to mobility aids intended to be secured in a motor vehicle using four-point mobility aid securement systems that meet the requirements of CSA Standard Z605. The applicable requirements of this Standard may be used as the basis for the development of transportable mobility aids for docking- or clamping-type mobility aid securement and occupant restraint (MASOR) systems.
1.4 This Standard places particular emphasis on the requirements for the dynamic performance of the transportable mobility aid in a 48 km/h (30 mph), 20 g frontal impact and does not determine suitability for side or rear vehicle impact, or impacts of lesser or higher magnitude.
1.5 This values given in SI (metric) are the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only.
