1.1.1 This Guide explains the intent, and compares the differences in comprehensiveness, of the four Software Quality Assur ance Program Standards in the CAN/CSA-Q396 Series. Guidance is provided for selecting appropriate Standards for given software products and for developing and implementing the Software Quality Assurance Programs.
References in this Guide to Q396.1.1, Q396.1.2, Q396.2.1, Q396.2.2 are CAN/CSA-Q396.1.1, Quality Assurance Program for the Development of Software Used in Critical Applications; CAN/CSA-Q396.1.2, Quality Assurance Program for Previously Developed Software Used in Critical Applications; CAN/CSA-Q396.2.1, Quality Assurance Program for the Development of Software Used in N oncritical Applications; and CAN/CSA-Q396.2.2, Quality Assurance Program for Previously Developed Software Used in Noncritical Applications.
1.1.2 This Guide discusses ways of complying with the requirements of Q396.1.1, Q396.1.2, Q396.2.1, and Q396.2.2. CSA Standard Q396.0 should be read in conjunction with the Standard being implemented, with the understanding that it neither reduces nor increases the specified requirements of the Standard.
