Preface
This is the fourth edition of CSA Standard CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 0.3, Test Methods for Electrical Wires and Cables, one of a series of Standards issued by the Canadian Standards Association under Part II of the Canadian Electrical Code. It supersedes previous editions published in-1971, 1976, and 1985.
This edition incorporates changes recommended by the UL 1581/CSA 0.3 Harmonization Task Force and endorsed by the Subcommittee on C22.2 No. 0.3. It also incorporates changes recommended by the Task Force on Acid Gas Evolution. The main changes are the
(a) upgrading of the vertical flame test (FTl) and the horizontal flame test (FTZ) for added safety and harmonization;
(b) deletion of the sunlight resistance test and substitution with the weather resistance test (which simulates outdoor conditions);
(c) deletion of tests associated with asbestos wires because CSA Standard C22.2 No. 28 has been withdrawn; and
(d) revamping of Appendix B by incorporating the hierarchy of flame spread ratings for communication cables, and the recognition of ULC Publication S102.4 as an alternate to NFPA Standard 265-1985.
For general information on the Standards of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part II, see the preface to CSA Standard CAN/CSA—C22.2 No. O, General Requirements--Canadian Electrical Code, Part II. I
This Standard was prepared by a Subcommittee of the Technical Committee on Wiring Products under the jurisdiction of the Standards Steering Committee on CE Code, Part II, and was formally approved by these Committees. It has been approved as a National Standard of Canada by the Standards Council of Canada.
