CSA C22.2 NO. 226:92 (R2021)
This is the second edition of CSA Standard C22.2 No. 226 (now CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 226), Protectors in Telecommunication Networks, one of a series of Standards issued by the Canadian Standards Association under Part II of the Canadian Electrical Code. It supersedes the previous edition published in 1989.
This Standard provides requirements for protectors, both primary and secondary, that are necessary in the installation of equipment that is electrically connected to a telecommunication network under the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I environment.
For general information on Standards of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part II, see the Preface of CSA Standard CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 0, General Requirements — Canadian Electrical Code, Part II.
This Standard was prepared by a Subcommittee of the Technical Committee on Consumer and Commercial Products under the jurisdiction of the Standards Steering Committee on the Canadian Electrical Code, Part II, and was formally approved by these Committees. It has been approved as a National Standard of Canada by the Standards Council of Canada.
This Standard provides requirements for primary and secondary protectors used in telecommunication networks and installed in nonhazardous locations in accordance with the Requirements of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.
This Standard is concerned with the safety of protector users and their property.
This Standard also provides requirements for a current-limiting device located on the equipment side and forming part of the telecommunication primary protector.
This Standard also applies to telecommunication secondary protectors, and the requirements, criteria, and tests for these are specified in Clause 7.
This Standard does not apply to protective devices such as isolating and neutralizing transformers, drainage coils and mutual drainage reactors, and optical isolators; nor does it apply to any other devices that may require special engineering considerations such as the protection of telecommunication services to, or between, electric power stations.
This Standard is not applicable to field adjustable protectors.
