Preface
This is the eleventh edition of CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 113, Fans and ventilators, one of a series of Standards issued under Part II of the Canadian Electrical Code. It supersedes the previous editions, published in 2015, 2012, 2010, 2008, 1984, 1982, 1981, 1976, 1974, and 1959.
The major changes to this edition include the removal of the requirements for ceiling fans, desk or table fans, hassock fans, suitcase or box fans, pedestal fans, agricultural fans, partition fans, duct fans, and range hood covered now by CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60335-2-80 and CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60335-2-31.
This Standard was prepared by the Subcommittee on Fans and Ventilators, under the jurisdiction of the Technical Committee on Consumer and Commercial Products and the Strategic Steering Committee on Requirements for Electrical Safety, and has been formally approved by the Technical Committee.
This Standard has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements for National Standards of Canada. It has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group.
Scope
1.1
This Standard applies to fans and ventilation equipment that are
a) cord-connected, rated at not more than 250 V;
b) permanently connected to supply circuits of 600 V or less, single-phase or three-phase;
c) used in non-hazardous locations;
d) used in household or commercial locations;
e) used indoors or outdoors; and
f) used in accordance with the Rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.
1.2
This Standard applies to roof- and wall-mounted power ventilators; exhaust and filter units consisting of an air-circulating fan and a mechanical filter; fans for use in unattended areas; clothes dryer booster fans for use in the exhaust duct of household clothes dryers; blowers intended for household, commercial or industrial use, and air curtains without any heating.

This Standard applies to fans such as wall insert, ceiling insert, attic, bathtub and shower stall, and household downdraft fans. It also applies to fan-type air-to-air heat exchangers, component fans including extra-low-voltage component fans, and commercial fans and blowers used for carpet cleaning or flood restoration and remediation.

This Standard does not apply to products that are within the scope of CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60335-2-80, such as ceiling fans, desk or table fans, hassock fans, suitcase or box fans, pedestal fans, agricultural fans, partition fans, and duct fans.

This Standard does not apply to range hoods that are within the scope of standard CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. E60335-2-31.
1.6
This Standard also does not apply to the following products:
a) air-conditioning equipment;
b) electric air heaters;
c) fan coil units;
d) humidifiers;
e) evaporative coolers;
f) electrostatic or ionizer air cleaners;
g) air cleaners that intentionally produce ozone;
h) blowers of particulate matter;
i) air-to-air heat exchangers with gas- or oil-fired heating means;
j) air curtains with heaters;
k) fans and ventilators intended to exhaust flammable vapours;
l) fans and ventilators intended to be used with vehicle exhaust systems; and
m) combination microwave/range hood units.

Throughout this Standard, the term fan also includes ventilators.
1.8
The values given in SI units are the units of record for the purposes of this Standard. The values given in parentheses are for information and comparison only.
1.9
In this Standard, shall is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the Standard; should is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and may is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the Standard.
Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material.
Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements.
Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application.
