Overview
As one of the most widely-used standards in the world, ISO 9001 specifies the requirements for a quality management system and helps organizations become more efficient and improve customer satisfaction.
CAN/CSA ISO 9001 is the Canadian-adopted version of the international standard and is applicable to the unique needs of the Canadian market. The standard has been updated to reflect the latest challenges currently facing global businesses and features many changes to structure and content, making it more relevant and user-friendly than ever before.
Highlights:
- Features the same high-level structure used by other ISO management system standards, simplifying management and maintenance requirements for organizations who have implemented multiple management systems
- Increased focus on risk-based thinking to better prevent undesired outcomes
- Greater emphasis on engaging leadership at multiple levels of an organization
- Addresses risks and opportunities in a structured manner to encourage organizations to be proactive and help them gain efficiencies
CSA Preface
This is the fifth edition of CAN/CSA-ISO 9001, Quality management systems — Requirements, which is an adoption without modification of the identically titled ISO (International Organization for Standardization) Standard 9001 (fifth edition, 2015-09-15). It supersedes the previous edition published in 2008 as CAN/CSA-ISO 9001 (adopted ISO 9001:2008).
This Standard has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements for National Standards of Canada. It has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group.
Scope
This International Standard specifies requirements for a quality management system when an organization:
a) needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, and
b) aims to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including processes for improvement of the system and the assurance of conformity to customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
All the requirements of this International Standard are generic and are intended to be applicable to any organization, regardless of its type or size, or the products and services it provides.
NOTE 1 In this International Standard, the terms product or service only apply to products and services intended for, or required by, a customer.
NOTE 2 Statutory and regulatory requirements can be expressed as legal requirements.
