1.1 This Standard applies to electromedlcal equipment designed to be installed and used in accordance with the Rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I and to battery powered equipment with the exception of battery powered implantable devices, insofar as the requirements are applicable.
1.2 This Standard does not include requirements for judging the suitability of equipment for use in hazardous locations, as defined in the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, or requirements for judging the suitability of equipment for use in an oxygen enriched environment in which the pressure exceeds 100 kPa.
Note: For requirements on the use of electricity in oxygen enriched environments, users are invited to consult CSA Standard Z32. 1, Code for Prevention of Explosions or Electric Shock in Hospital Operating Rooms.
1.3 This Standard does not include requirements for
(a) x-ray equipment or similar equipment intended to emit alpha, beta, or gamma radiation; (b) nuclear magnetic resonance equipment; and (c) nuclear gamma cameras.
Note: Requirements applicable to equipment using ionizing radiation for its intended purpose are given in CSA Standard C22.2 No. 114, Radiation-Emitting Equipment.
