1.1.1 This Standard applies to stationary fuel cell power systems that are packaged, self-contained or factory matched packages of integrated systems (see 1.2.1), which through electrochemical reactions and other processes, generate alternating-current or direct-current electricity. Such systems are herein referred to as fuel cell power system(s).
1.1.2 This Standard applies to stationary fuel cell power systems when intended for operation with fuels listed in 1.1.3: a. At an output voltage not exceeding nominal 600 VAC or 600 VDC; and b. At a power output not exceeding 10 MW.
Exception: Output voltage may exceed nominal 600 VAC up to nominal 15,000 VAC in accordance with A.1.31 (see Exhibit A, Electrical Equipment and Wiring).
1.1.3 Stationary fuel cell power systems examined for compliance with this standard shall be for use with: a. Natural gas, methane gas mixtures; and/or b. Liquefied petroleum gases; and/or c. Methanol, ethanol (or other alcohol fuel), kerosene, diesel, gasoline (or other liquid hydrocarbons); and/or d. Hydrogen gas; and/or e. Zinc particulate conveyed in a non-flammable liquid medium.
1.1.4 Exhibit A contains coverage for electrical equipment and wiring.
1.1.5 Publications of nationally-recognized standards and codes referenced herein are listed in Exhibit B, List of Reference Standards. When applicable, other nationally-recognized publications may be utilized to supplement those referenced herein.
In the absence of applicable publications, the manufacturer may submit other evidence of conformance to the testing agency. However, acceptance of such evidence shall be left at the discretion of the testing agency.
1.1.6 If a value for measurement as given in this standard is followed by an equivalent value in other units, the first stated value is to be regarded as the specification. Conversion factors for quantities stated herein are listed in Appendix F, Table of Conversion Factors.
SI Units stated herein are in accordance with the Standard for Use of the International System of Units: The Modern Metric System, IEEE/ASTM SI 10.
1.1.7 All references to psi throughout this standard are to be considered gauge pressure unless otherwise specified.
