Preface
This is the third edition of CSA Standard B127.1, Asbestos Cement Drain Waste, and Vent Pipe and Pipe Fittings (previously titled Components for Use in Asbestos Cement Drain Waste and Vent Systems). It supersedes the previous editions published in 1977 and 1975.
An Appendix A has been added which includes the complete text and figures of CSA Standard B127.11, Recommended Practice for the Installation of Asbestos Cement Drain, Waste, and Vent Pipe and Pipe Fittings, published in 1982 and reaffirmed in 1998. An Appendix B has also been added to provide nonmandatory guidelines on the suitability of materials entering into the composition of asbestos cement pipes.
The following are the major revisions that have been incorporated into this edition:
(a) recommendations for the installation of asbestos cement DWV pipe and fittings;
(b) the addition of requirements for fabricated fittings; and
(c) revisions to test requirements and methods, including the addition of a chemical resistance test.
Products in substantial accord with this Standard but exhibiting minor differences from it may be deemed to meet the Standard providing it can be demonstrated to the satisfaction of the authority having jurisdiction, the intended user of the product, or the certification agency acting on their behalf that these differences will not impair the suitability of the product for its intended use.
Notes to the text do not include mandatory or alternative requirements. The purpose of a note is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material that is not properly a part of the Standard.
Notes to figures and tables are to be considered part of the figure or table and are written as mandatory requirements. Legends to figures are to be considered mandatory requirements.
This Standard has been prepared and approved by the Technical Committee on Asbestos Cement Drain and Sewer Piping under the jurisdiction of the Standards Steering Committee on Plumbing Products and Materials.
Scope
1.1
This Standard covers Type 1 (Class 3000) and Type 2 (Class 4000) asbestos cement (AC) pipe and pipe fittings and cast iron fittings for use in drainage, waste, and vent systems inside buildings and for building drains and rain water leaders.
1.2
This Standard includes specifications for material, dimensions, flexural strength, crushing strength, chemical resistance, and joint tightness. Methods of marking to indicate compliance with these requirements are included. Recommended installation practice is given in Appendix A. Suitability of material composition is given in Appendix B.
