Face Protectors for Ice Hockey and Box Lacrosse Players
Product Details
Preface
This is the second edition of CSA Standard Z262.2 (now CAN3-Z262.2), Face Protectors for Ice Hockey and Box Lacrosse Players. This Standard supersedes the previous edition issued as a Preliminary Standard in 1977 under the title Eye and Teeth Protectors for Hockey Forwards and Defencemen.
This new edition differs from the Preliminary Standard essentially as follows:
(a) The scope has been broadened to include complete face protection for ice hockey goalkeepers and players of box lacrosse;
(b) This Standard provides for the acceptance of face protectors only where used in conjunction with helmets meeting the requirements of CSA Standard Z262. 1, Hockey Helmets;
(c) Requirements for intra-oral teeth protectors have been deleted.
While the use of face protectors has greatly reduced the number and severity of injuries to the eyes and teeth of players, the Committee recognizes that the use of face protectors will not eliminate injuries. The need for proper fitting of equipment and replacement of damaged protectors is essential.
This Standard was prepared by the Technical Committee on Protective Equipment for Hockey and Lacrosse Players, under the jurisdiction of the Standards Steering Committee on Sports and Recreational Equipment, and was formally approved by these Committees. It has been approved as a National Standard by the Standards Council of Canada.
Scope
1.1
This Standard applies to equipment intended to protect the entire face of ice hockey and box lacrosse players from the normal hazards likely to be encountered during a game.
Nate: Ice hockey and box lacrosse are contact sports with intrinsic hazards. Protective equipment will not eliminate all injuries but will substantially reduce their severity and frequency. Participation in these sports by a player implies acceptance of some risk of injury. The goal is to minimize this risk.
1.2
This Standard applies . to face protectors worn by forwards, defencemen, and goalkeepers.
Nate: Dimensions in parentheses are included for information only.
