Preface
This is the sixth edition of No. 18 of a series of Standards issued by the Canadian Standards Association under Part II of the Canadian Electrical Code. It supersedes previous editions published in 1972, 1968, 1960, 1953, and 1934.
The requirements for flush-device cover plates have been removed from this edition and will appear in future in CSA Standard C22.2 No. 42, General Use Receptacles, Plugs and Similar Wiring Devices.

This Standard was prepared under the jurisdiction of the Committee on CE Code, Part II, which is subsidiary to the Committee on CE Code, Part I, and was formally approved by these Committees.
Scope

This Standard applies to metal and nonmetallic boxes not exceeding 100 cubic inches in volume* that are designed to be employed in accordance with the rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.
*This does not preclude larger boxes not exceeding the equivalent of the 10-gang in size, each single-gang section of which does not exceed 100 cubic inches in volume. See also Clause 4.10.3, which covers the possible omission of mounting ears.

The scope of this Standard includes not only enclosures known to the trade as outlet boxes and conduit boxes but also armoured—cable boxes, concrete boxes, flexible—non—metallic—tubing boxes, floor-outlet boxes, flush-device boxes, junction boxes, non—metallic—sheathed—cable boxes, pull boxes, extension rings, outlet box covers, protector plates, threaded and threadless fittings, cable and conduit straps, clamps and hangers, entrance caps, cable connectors, locknuts, bushings, and reducing washers.
Note.- These products are intended for use in nonhazardous locations on knob-and-tube, conduit, electrical-metallic-tubinq, aluminum—sheathed—, mineral-insulated—, armoured—cable, or non-metallic sheathed—cable installations to afford adequate housing and support for flush switches, flush receptacles, and similar devices and protection for wiring joints.
