Management of Surgical Plume
Based on the CSA Z305.13, Plume scavenging in surgical, diagnostic, therapeutic, and aesthetic settings standard
Product Details
Course Overview
Plume is produced when energy-based devices, such as lasers, electrosurgical devices, and ultrasonic instruments, are used to cut, coagulate, or vapourise tissue during surgical, diagnostic, therapeutic, and aesthetic techniques.
The hazards associated with surgical plume, which can be harmful to staff, patients/clients, and others, are well documented. By implementing and monitoring an effective plume management policy and procedures, organizations can address potential hazards from plume and reduce the risk of exposure to staff and patients/clients.
In this course you will learn about the hazards and risks of exposure to plume, the evidence-based standards governing it, and what to include in a facility-based plume management implementation plan to mitigate the hazards of exposure to plume in the workplace.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this course, learners will be able to:
- Outline the cause and nature of hazards associated with plume, and the risks to staff and clients exposed to plume.
- Identify regulations, evidence-based standards, and guidelines to mitigate plume hazards in health care and clinical settings.
- Summarize the steps to develop a sustainable, practical, and clinically relevant implementation plan based on CSA Z305.13 and other industry regulations and guidelines for management of the risks and hazards of surgical plume.
