This edition supersedes the sixth edition published in 1965 which was preceded by those of 1924, 1930, 1940, 1954 and 1961.
Scope
1.1
This Standard provides rules and requirements for the design, fabrication, and erection of steel structures for buildings. The term steel structures relates to structural members and frames which consist primarily of structural steel components, including the detail parts, welds, bolts, or other fasteners required in fabrication and erection.
1.2
This Standard does not cover the design, fabrication, and erection of steel structures other than for buildings except as permitted by the authority having jurisdiction.
1.3
Where reference is made to other publications, such references shall be considered to refer to the latest edition approved by the organization issuing the publication.
