This new edition of CSA Standard G4, Steel Wire Rope for General Purpose and for Mine Hoisting and Mine Haulage, combines the requirements of, and supersedes the previous editions of CSA Standard G4, Steel Wire Rope: General Purpose, published in 1921, 1958, and 1967; CSA Standard 1318, Steel Wire Rope for Mine Hoisting and Haulage Purposes, published in 1965.
Scope
1.1 This Standard covers mine hoisting and mine haulage ropes and ropes for general applications. It includes requirements for raw materials and construction features for round strand and flattened strand rope in bright and galvanized finish.
1.2 This Standard is not intended for use in the manufacture and purchase of aircraft cable, elevator rope, tiller rope, marlin-covered rope, marine or shipping rope, drilling rope, bridge rope and strand, galvanized sash cord, zinc-coated strand, or galvanized guide rail cable.
