Preface
This is the fourth edition of CSA Standard C22.2 No. 108, Liquid Pumps, one of a series of Standards issued by the Canadian Standards Association under Part II of the Canadian Electrical Code. It supersedes previous editions, published in 1989, 1975, and 1957.
Significant changes to this edition include the addition of Clause 11, Pool and Spa Cover Drain Pumps, and the updating of Clause 6.13, Flame Tests. In addition, referenced Standards have been updated to include Standards and amendments issued since the last edition.

This Standard was prepared by the Subcommittee on C22.2 No. 108 of the Technical Committee on Industrial Products under the jurisdiction of the Strategic Resource Group and was formally approved by the Technical Committee.
This Standard has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements for National Standards of Canada. It has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group.
Scope
1.1
This Standard applies to motor-operated liquid pump units, for use in nonhazardous, indoor, outdoor (exposed), and submerged locations, and designed to be used in accordance with the Rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.
1.2
This Standard applies to
(a) pumps for either permanent or cord-connection to the source of supply;
(b) cord- and plug-connected pumps; and
(c) component-type pump units intended to be built into equipment covered by another Standard of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part II.
1.3
This Standard does not apply to pumps for hazardous locations or pumps required to handle flammable liquids such as gasoline pumps.
1.4
Clauses 1 to 6 are general in nature and apply to all motor-operated liquid pump units. They are supplemented and amended by additional clauses applying to specific types of pumps, as follows:
(a) Clause 7 - submersible pumps;
(b) Clause 8 - cord- and plug-connected poolside pumps;
(c) Clause 9 - insulated wet end pumps;
(d) Clause 10 - extra-low-voltage recreational vehicle pumps; and
(e) Clause 11 - pool and spa cover drain pumps.
