1. Scope
1.1
This Standard specifies two types of hot-rolled deformed billet-steel bars, designated regular (R) and weldable (W). The R is used for specifying, ordering, and communication purposes
only and is not rolled onto the bar. The W is rolled onto the bar (see Clauses 3 and 15). The two types are distinguished by their chemical composition requirements (see Clause 6). The
bars may be in cut lengths or coils. Included are plain bars (Type R only).
1.2
Regular (R) grades are intended for general applications. Weldable (W) grades are intended for applications where welding, bending, or ductility are of special concern.
1.3
This Standard specifies three minimum yield strength levels, namely; 300 MPa, 400 MPa, and 500 MPa designated as Grades 300R, 400R, 400W, 500R and 500W, respectively. (See Clause 3 , Ordering Information).
1.4
All bars produced to this Standard can be welded under appropriate conditions. The weld-ability of reinforcing bars is not part of this Standard, but is covered by the latest edition of CSA Standard W186.
