Aluminum Pipe and Pressure Piping Systems
Product Details
1.1 General
1.1.1 This Standard covers material requirements, design concepts and formulae, welding processes and qualifications, piping system components and fabrication details, installation, testing, inspection, and corrosion prevention and control of aluminum pipelines and pressure piping systems for gas transmission and distribution systems, oil pipeline transportation systems, offshore pipelines, industrial gas and air piping systems, petroleum refinery piping systems, chemical process piping systems, water and sewage piping systems and other applications where aluminum is suitable. The use of coiled aluminum pipe for gas pipeline systems is also covered.
1.1.2 This Standard does not apply to:
(a) Design and fabrication of pressure vessels covered by appropriate pressure vessel codes;
(b) Piping with metal temperatures above 400°F (204°C);
(c) Casing, tubing or pipe in oil or gas wells, wellhead assemblies, separators, production tanks or other producing facilities and piping interconnecting these facilities;
(d) Piping beyond the termination of the gas utility installation;
(e) Heat exchangers; and
(f) Proprietary items of equipment, apparatus, or instruments.
1.1.3 It is not intended that the application of this Standard shall operate to prevent the development of new materials, equipment or practices, nor to prescribe specifically how such new innovations should be handled.
1.1.4 Where any requirements of this Standard are at variance with the requirements of other Standards or Codes incorporated by reference into this Standard, the requirements of this Standard shall govern.
1.1.5 It is not intended that the requirements of this Standard be applied retroactively to existing installations insofar as design, fabrication, installation, established operating pressure and testing are concerned. It is intended, however, that the provisions of this Standard shall be applicable to the operation, maintenance, up-grading and up-rating of existing installations.
1.1.6 The term shall as used in this Standard indicates a mandatory requirement. The term should indicates a recommended practice.
