Preface
1.1 This Standard specifies minimum requirements for the design, construction, installation, and operation of elevating devices that are to be used by handicapped persons travelling between fixed points in private residences, with a view to safeguarding against risk of accidents associated with the operation of such equipment.
1.2 Elevating devices covered in this Standard are as follows:
(a) enclosed vertical platform lifts
(b) unenclosed vertical platform lifts
(c) stair chair lifts; and
(d) stair platform lifts.
1.3 This Standard does not apply to lifts for the handicapped covered by CSA Standard CAN/CSA-B355, Safety Code for Elevating Devices for the Handicapped, nor to elevating devices covered by CSA Standard CAN3-B44, Safety Code for Elevators, Escalators, Dumbwaiters, Moving Walks, and Freight Platform Lifts.
