This Standard specifies performance requirements and related test procedures used to evaluate fluorescent lamps intended for general service applications.
This Standard includes performance requirements for (a) lamp efficacy; and (b) colour-rendering index (CRI).
This Standard applies to (a) rapid-start straight lamps, with a medium bipin base, 1200 mm (48 in) nominal overall length, and a rated wattage of 28 W or more; (b) rapid-start U-shaped lamps, with a medium bipin base, between 560 mm and 635 mm (22-25 in) nominal overall length, and a rated wattage of 28 W or more; (c) rapid-start lamps, commonly referred to as high-output lamps, with a recessed double-contact base, 2400 mm (96 in) nominal overall length, and 0.8 A nominal as defined in ANSI Standard C78.1; and (d) instant-start lamps, commonly referred to as slimline lamps, with a single-pin base, 2400 mm (96 in) nominal overall length, and a rated wattage of 52 W or more, as defined in ANSI Standard C78.3.
This Standard does not apply to lamps designed and marketed for the following nongeneral applications:
(a) lamps designed to promote plant growth;
(b) lamps specifically designed for cold temperature application;
(c) coloured lamps;
(d) lamps designed to be impact-resistant;
(e) reflector or aperture lamps; (f) lamps designed for use in reprographic equipment;
(g) lamps designed to produce radiation primarily in the ultraviolet region of the spectrum; and
(h) lamps with a CRI of 82 or greater.
