OUTLET BOXES AND FITTINGS - Boxes

COVERAGE:

Metal and non-metallic boxes not exceeding 100 cu in. in volume* and including
enclosures known to the trade as "outlet boxes" and "conduit boxes",
armoured-cable boxes, concrete boxes, flexible-nonmetallic-tubing boxes, floor-outlet
boxes, flush-device boxes, junction boxes, nonmetallic-sheathed-cable boxes, pull boxes
and extension rings or box extenders.

*This does not preclude larger boxes not exceeding the equivalent of the 10-gang in
size, each single-gang section of which does not exceed 100 cu in. in volume.

REQUIREMENTS:

CSA C22.2 No 18 Outlet Boxes, Conduit Boxes, Fittings and Associated Hardware
CSA C22.2 No 18.1 Metallic Outlet Boxes
CSA C22.2 No 85 Rigid PVC Boxes and Fittings

MARKING:

  • submittor's identification;
  • model designation or equivalent;
  • volume in cubic inches or ML or equivalent (where applicable);
  • "N" on the integral non-metallic sheathed cable clamp if provided;
  • "A" on the integral armoured cable clamp or flexible metal conduit clamp, if
    provided;
  • additional markings as may be required;
  • CSA Monogram.

Note:  In accordance with CSA Standard C22.2 No. 18.1, a clamp or other securement
means furnished as part of an outlet box shall be marked to indicate the type of
application for which it is intended to be used. The following abbreviations marked in
lieu of the name of the cable, conduit, and tubing shall apply:

  1. A for armored cable, TECK cable, or aluminum sheathed cable,
  2. F for flexible metal conduit,
  3. N for nonmetallic-sheathed cable,
  4. T for flexible tubing,
  5. ALL for all types of applications.
