COMFORT CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT - Heat Pumps - Certified to U.S. Standards

COVERAGE:

Heat pumps, for heating and cooling with or without
factory, or field-installed electric resistance heaters, or hot water or steam
heating coils.

Add-on heat pumps, intended for comfort heating or heating and cooling, not exceeding
20kW in the cooling mode, normally consisting of an indoor coil, outdoor section and
associated controls, intended to utilize the fan assemblies and duct work of the existing
installed furnaces to form the
complete functional systems where the existing parts are not covered by this
certification.

This category does not include cooling only, electric resistance heating only or
cooling and electric resistance heating equipment.

Equipment covered by ANSI/UL 60335-2-40 is rated up to
250V, single phase, and up to 600V for all other phases.

REQUIREMENTS:

UL 1995 Heating and Cooling Equipment
UL 60335-1 Safety of Household and Similar Electrical Appliances,
Part 1: General Requirements
UL 60335-2-40 Safety of Household and Similar Electrical Appliances –
Part 2-40: Particular Requirements for Electrical Heat Pumps,
Air-Conditioners and Dehumidifiers

MARKING:

On main nameplate:

  • submittor's identification;
  • model designation or equivalent;
  • complete electrical rating;
  • date code or equivalent;
  • type and weight (where applicable) of refrigerant;
  • Design pressures for the high and low pressure sides, if intended to employ
    refrigerant;
  • Maximum outlet air temperature for units with electric resistance heaters;
  • static pressure where applicable;
  • installation spacings where applicable;
  • reference to the "Heater Installed" dataplate for element ratings where
    applicable;
  • wiring diagram showing connection to both single and multiple supply sources on units
    designed to be connected to more than one source of supply;
  • Marking ?OUTDOOR USE? or equivalent where applicable;
  • additional markings as may be required;
  • CSA Mark and "US" indicator adjacent to the CSA Mark.

On separable heater element assemblies intended for field installation:

  • model designation or equivalent;
  • electrical rating of the heater element assembly;
  • a statement to indicate the blower-evaporator unit with which the heater element
    assembly is designed to be used.

On a separate "Heater Installed" dataplate on blower-evaporator units
intended
to accept separable heater element assemblies:

  • list of model numbers of all heater elements that can be installed in the
    blower-evaporator unit;
  • electrical rating (volts, watts, amperes) of all heater elements that can be installed
    in the blower-evaporator unit;
  • minimum circuit ampacity for the complete blower-evaporator and heater assembly;
  • maximum size of fuse or circuit breaker permitted for the complete blower-evaporator and
    heater assembly;
  • provision for checking off the model number of the heater that is installed in the
    blower-evaporator;

On the exterior of the section of the blower-evaporator that houses the field-installed
heater elements if the heater element nameplate is not visible after installation of the
elements:

  • "FOR ACTUAL HEATER ELEMENT RATING SEE ELEMENT MARKING INSIDE" or equivalent
    wording.
