This is the second edition of CSA M676, Agricultural cabs - Engineering control of environmental air quality. Part 1: Definitions, test methods, and safety practices, which is an adoption without modification of the identically titled ANSI/ASAE (American National Standards Institute/American Society of Agricultural Engineers) Standard S525-1.2 JAN03.
It supersedes the previous edition, published in 1999 under the title Agricultural Cabs - Environmental Air Quality. Part 1: Definitions, Test Methods, and Safety Practices (adopted ANSI/ASAE S525-1.1 MAY98).
Purpose and Scope
1.1 This Standard provides a quantitative method of establishing an engineering control including definitions, performance criteria, and test procedures for cabs (enclosures) used on agricultural tractors and selfpropelled machines. This Standard should only be used as part of a managed program of occupational health and safety as defined by applicable regulations when the machines operate in an environment where agricultural pesticides are present.
1.2 Annex A is included to identify references used in the development of this Standard. It is informative and not considered part of this Standard.
1.3 The scope of part I of this Standard is limited to terminology, definitions, performance criteria, test criteria, and general safe operating practices. This Standard provides a quantified engineering control level for cab enclosures. It is intended to be a design qualification standard. Its purpose is to reduce pesticide exposure through a targeted performance level of cab air filtration. Cabs meeting this standard are intended for use as a supplement to personal protective equipment specified in the use directions on the pesticide label. Their use should be part of a managed program of occupational health and safety as defined by applicable regulations. The scope of this Standard covers pesticides, and it specifically excludes fumigants and other substances which have vapor pressures in excess of 0.1 mm of HG for pure active ingredients. Maintenance and quality control of in use machines and/or enclosures is beyond the scope of this standard. However, such programs are essential for effective worker protection.
