CSA ISO 14064-2:20

Overview

The environmental impacts of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are driving many organizations to create initiatives to reduce their carbon footprints. This standard focuses on GHG projects or project-based activities specifically designed to reduce GHG emissions or increase GHG removals. It includes requirements for determining project baseline scenarios and provide the basis for GHG projects to be validated and verified.

CSA Preface

This is the second edition of CSA ISO 14064-2, Greenhouse gases — Part 2: Specification with guidance at the project level for quantification, monitoring and reporting of greenhouse gas emission reductions or removal enhancements, which is an adoption without modification of the identically titled ISO (International Organization for Standardization) Standard 14064-2 (second edition, 2019-04). It supersedes the previous edition, published in 2006 as CAN/CSA-ISO 14064-2 (adopted ISO 14064-2:2006).

This Standard is one of a group of Standards on Greenhouse gases being adopted by CSA Group, which consists of the following:

a) ISO 14064-1 — Part 1: Specification with guidance at the organization level for quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions and removals;

b) ISO 14064-2 — Part 2: Specification with guidance at the project level for quantification, monitoring and reporting of greenhouse gas emission reductions or removal enhancements; and

c) ISO 14064-3 — Part 3: Specification with guidance for the verification and validation of greenhouse gas statements.

This Standard has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements for National Standards of Canada. It has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group.

Scope

This document specifies principles and requirements and provides guidance at the project level for the quantification, monitoring and reporting of activities intended to cause greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions or removal enhancements. It includes requirements for planning a GHG project, identifying and selecting GHG sources, sinks and reservoirs (SSRs) relevant to the project and baseline scenario, monitoring, quantifying, documenting and reporting GHG project performance and managing data quality.

The ISO 14060 family of standards is GHG programme neutral. If a GHG programme is applicable, the requirements of that GHG programme are additional to the requirements of the ISO 14060 family of standards.
