Scope

1.1
This Standard specifies construction and per¬formance requirements, methods of test, and labelling requirements for protective headgear intended for use by operators and passengers of motorcycles, snowmobiles, and other motor, vehicles. Requirements are not specified for visors, goggles, detachable peaks, and detachable face covers.

1.2
This Standard applies to helmets after all detachable accessories have been removed.

Note:
Protective equipment will not eliminate all injuries but will substantially reduce their severity and frequency. Riding motorcycles. mopeds, etc, implies acceptance of some risk of injury. The goal is to minimize this risk.
