Standards development within the Information Technology sector is harmonized with international standards development. Through the CSA Technical Committee on Information Technology (TCIT), Canadians serve as the Canadian Advisory Committee (CAC) on ISO/IEC Joint Technical Committee 1 on Information Technology (ISO/IEC JTC1) for the Standards Council of Canada (SCC), the ISO member body for Canada and sponsor of the Canadian National Committee of the IEC. Also, as a member of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Canada participates in the International Telegraph and Telephone Consultative Committee (ITU-T).
At the time of publication, ISO/IEC 14496-15:2004 is available from ISO and IEC in English only. CSA will publish the French version when it becomes available from ISO and IEC.
Scope
This part of ISO/IEC 14496 specifies the storage format for AVC (ISO/IEC 14496-10Â
ITU-T Rec. H.264) video streams.
The storage of AVC content uses the existing capabilities of the ISO Base Media File Format but also defines extensions to support the following features of the AVC codec: - Switching pictures: To enable switching between different coded streams and substitution of pictures within the same stream. - Sub-sequences and layers: Provides a structuring of the dependencies of a group of pictures to provide for a flexible stream structure (e.g. in terms of temporal scalability and layering). - Parameter sets: The sequence and picture parameter set mechanism decouples the transmission of infrequently changing information from the transmission of coded macroblock data.
Each slice containing the coded macroblock data references the picture parameter set containing its decoding parameters. In turn, the picture parameter set references a sequence parameter set that contains sequence level decoding parameter information.
