      • Preface/Scope
      Scope

      This clause of part 1 is replaced by:

      This standard deals with the safety of electrically operated commercial rinsing sinks not intended for household use, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V for single-phase appliances connected between one phase and neutral, and 480 V for other appliances.

      Note 1
      These appliances are used, for example, in kitchens such as in restaurants, canteens, hospitals and commercial enterprises such as bakeries, butcheries, etc.

      The electrical part of appliances making use of other forms of energy is also within the scope of this standard.

      So far as is practicable, this standard deals with the common hazards presented by these types of appliances.

      Note 2
      Attention is drawn to the fact that

      • for appliances intended to be used in vehicles or on board ships or aircraft, additional requirements may be necessary;
      • for appliances intended to be used in tropical countries, special requirements may be necessary;
      • in many countries additional requirements are specified by the national health authorities, the national authorities responsible for the protection of labour, the national water supply authorities and similar authorities.

      This standard does not apply to

      • appliances designed primarily for sterilizing to clinical standards;
      • dishwashers (IEC 335-2-58);
      • appliances designed exclusively for industrial purposes;
      • appliances intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, such as the presence of a corrosive or explosive atmosphere (dust, vapour or gas).

      Domaine d'application

      L'article de la partie 1 est remplacé par:
      La présente norme traite de la sécurité des plonges électriques à usage collectif, qui ne sont pas destinés aux usages domestiques, la tension assignée des appareils n'étant pas supérieure à 250 V pour les appareils monophasés alimentés entre phase et neutre, et 480 V pour les autres appareils.

      Note 1
      Ces appareils sont utilisés, par exemple dans des cuisines telles que celles des restaurants, des cantines, des hôpitaux et des entreprises commerciales telles que boulangeries, boucheries, etc.

      La présente norme s'applique également à la partie électrique des appareils faisant appel à d'autres formes d'énergie.

      Dans la mesure du possible, la présente norme traite des risques ordinaires présentés par ces types d'appareils.

      Note 2
      L'attention est attirée sur le fait que

      pour les appareils destinés à être utilisés dans des véhicules ou à bord de navires ou d'avions, des prescriptions supplémentaires peuvent être nécessaires;

      • pour les appareils destinés à être utilisés dans les pays tropicaux, des prescriptions spéciales peuvent être nécessaires;
      • dans de nombreux pays, des prescriptions supplémentaires sont imposées par les organismes nationaux de la santé publique, les organismes nationaux responsables de la protection des travailleurs, les organismes responsables de la distribution d'eau et par des organismes similaires.

      La présente norme ne s'applique pas

      • aux appareils destinés principalement à la stérilisation conforme aux normes cliniques;
      • aux lave-vaiselle (CEI 335-2-58);
      • aux appareils construits exclusivement pour des usages industriels;
      • aux appareils destinés à être utilisés dans des locaux présentant des conditions particulières, telles que la présence d'une atmosphère corrosive ou explosive (poussière, vapeur ou gaz).
