      CSA Preface

      This is the first edition of CSA Standard CAN/CSA-C1325, Insulators for overhead lines with a nominal voltage above 1 000 V— Ceramic org/ass insulator units for d.c. systems — Definitions, test methods and acceptance criteria, which is an adoption, with Canadian deviations, of the identically titled CEI/IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) Standard 1325:1 995 (first edition, 1995-03).

      This Standard has been approved as a National Standard of Canada by the Standards Council of Canada.

      Scope

      This International Standard is applicable to string insulator units of ceramic material or glass for use on d.c. overhead power lines with a nominal voltage greater than 1 000 V.

      It is not applicable to composite insulators.

      The application of this standard to insulators for use in other situations under d.c. voltage will be left to the relevant technical committees.

      This standard specifies:

      - the characteristics of insulators;

      - the conditions under which the specified values of these characteristics shall be verified;

      - acceptable criteria.

      It specifies basic characteristic tests in a manner similar to that of IEC 383-1. Certain additional tests have been found to be necessary to ensure satisfactory long-term performance of d.c. insulators. At present, these additional tests concern only cap and pin insulators.

      In view of the lack of significant performance data regarding long rod insulators on d.c. lines, it is not possible at present to define or validate special d.c.-oriented tests for such insulators.

      This standard does not include requirements, or special tests, dealing with the choice of insulators for specific operating conditions (e.g. aging arising from specific operating conditions).

      This standard also defines the insulator characteristics (mechanical, electrical, and dimensional) and prescribes the conditions under which the specified values of these characteristics are to be verified.

      NOTES

      1 This standard does not include artificial pollution tests or tests on insulator sets. These subjects and some relevant test methods are dealt with in the following IEC Publications: IEC 383-2 and IEC 1245.

      2 Many of the requirements and tests in this standard are relevant to insulators for use on d.c. traction lines, but other tests may be required. Reference can be made to IEC 383-1.

      Canadian Deviations are included in this Standard.

      Preface CSA

      Ce document constitue Ia première édition de la norme CAN/CSA-C1325, Isolateurs pour lignes aériennes de tension nominale supérieure à 1 000 V— Eléments d'isolateurs en céramique ou en verre pour systèmes à courant continu — Définitions, méthodes d'essai et critères d'acceptation. Il s'agit de l'adoption, avec exigences propres au Canada, de la norme internationale de la Commission Électrotechnique Internationale CEI/IEC 1325:1995 (première édition, 1995-03), qui porte le même titre.

      Cette norme a été approuvée comme Norme nationale du Canada par le Conseil canadien des normes.

      Domaine d'application

      La présente Norme internationale est applicable aux chaînes d'isolateurs en matière céramique ou en verre destinés aux lignes aériennes de transport d'énergie fonctionnant en courant continu à une tension nominale supérieure à 1 000 V.

      Elle n'est pas applicable aux isolateurs composites.

      Pour des cas d'utilisation d'isolateurs à courant continu autres que celui décrit ci-dessus, l'application de cette norme relèvera des comités d'études concernés.

      La présente norme spécifie:

      - les caractéristiques des isolateurs;

      - les conditions dans lesquelles les valeurs spécifiées de ces caractéristiques doivent être vérifiées;

      - les conditions d'acceptation.

      Elle spécifie les essais caractéristiques de base avec une approche semblable à celle de la CEI 383-1. Certains essais supplémentaires se sont révélés nécessaires pour s'assurer du comportement satisfaisant à long terme des isolateurs à courant continu. À ce jour, ces essais supplémentaires ne concernent que les isolateurs capot et tige.

      Vu le manque de données significatives concernant le comportement des isolateurs à fût long sur des lignes à courant continu, il n'est pas possible, en ce moment, de définir ou de valider des essais spéciaux orientés vers le courant continu.

      La présente norme ne contient pas de prescriptions, ni d'essais spéciaux, relatifs au choix des isolateurs en fonction des conditions spécifiques de service (par exemple le vieillissement dû aux conditions spécifiques de service).

      Cette norme définit également les caractéristiques mécaniques, électriques et dimensionnelles des isolateurs et énonce les conditions dans lesquelles les valeurs spécifiées pour ces caractéristiques doivent être vérifiées.

      NOTES

      1 Cette norme ne comprend pas les essais de pollution artificielle ou les essais des chaînes équipées. Les questions et les méthodes d'essais s'y rapportant sont traitées dans les publications suivantes de la CEI: CEI 383-2 et CEI 1245.

      2 De nombreuses prescriptions et des essais dans cette norme sont pertinents aux isolateurs pour lignes de traction électrique en courant continu, mais d'autres essais peuvent être nécessaires. On peut se référer à la CEI 383-1.

      Cette norme comprend des Exigences propres au Canada.
