This Standard covers cast iron soil pipe and fittings for installation in gravity-flow plumbing systems inside and outside of buildings, above and below grade.
1.2
This Standard covers requirements for cast iron soil pipe, fittings, backwater valves, and means of joining these components, including dimensions, material specifications, crush strength, pressure testing, and marking. Appendix A contains recommended quality control requirements for cast iron soil pipe and fittings.

In this Standard, is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard. Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate explanatory or informative material from the text. Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements. Legends to equations and figures are considered requirements.
