1.1 This Standard specifies the test methods to be used in measuring the energy efficiency of small single- and three-phase rotating motors. This Standard includes but is not limited to the following motor types:
The method of quoting and the permissible tolerance on the nominal efficiency values are also specified. *The tests listed apply to operation on alternating current only. ¹These motors also include an integral converter that operates on alternating current.
1.2 This Standard applies to three-phase motors rated up to 0.746 kW at 1800 r/min (or equivalent*) and single-phase motors rated up to 7.5 kW. *An equivalent motor is a motor with the same torque output but with different kilowatt output and speed. Torque varies as kilowatts per revolutions per minute.
