1.1 This Standard applies to the materials, construction, and testing of one- to four-conductor shielded and single-conductor concentric neutral cables incorporating cross-linked polyethylene or ethylene-propylene rubber insulation with optional thermoplastic or thermoset jacket and optional metal sheath or armour. These cables are intended for transmission and distribution of electrical energy for use either indoors or outdoors.
1.2 This Standard applies to cables rated 5-46 kV with a 100% insulation level and to cables rated 5-35 kV with a 133% insulation level.
1.3 This Standard applies to power cables capable of continuous operation at a maximum conductor temperature of 90°C for cross-linked polyethylene-insulated cables and 90° or 105°C for ethylene-propylene rubber insulated cables (see Appendix B).
1.3 A This Standard specifies the requirements for discharge-free and discharge-resistant cables as defined herein.
1.4 This Standard does not preclude the use of other components such as insulations designated as tree retardant, moisture-impervious laminated sheaths, individually covered steel wire armour, or optical fibres provided that the product meets the performance requirements of this Standard,,
Test procedures for these specific components are not included in this Standard.
