Concentric Neutral Power Cable
This is the third edition of CSA Standard C68.2, Concentric Neutral Power Cable. It is one of a series of CSA Standards on insulated power cable and is written in SI (metric) units. The others in the series are
C68.l, Paper-Insulated Power Cable Solid Type;
C68.3, Power Cable With Thermoset Insulation; and
C68.4, Portable Power Cables.
This Standard reflects current technology employed in the production and testing of concentric neutral power cables. It includes
(a) compact stranded conductors;
(b) extruded conductor shields;
(c) shielded insulation systems up to 46 kV, with a 100% insulation level, and
(d) full-reel, partial- discharge, extinction- level testing.
This Standard applies to two-conductor electrical distribution cables consisting of a thermoset insulated conductor and a copper concentric neutral conductor applied helically over the insulation shield with or without an overall jacket. The cables are intended for underground installation on either single—phase or three-phase distribution systems. Provision is made for a triplex assembly of cables. This Standard does not apply to cables intended for use in submarine applications.
This Standard applies only to power cables for use on systems of 5 to 46 kV where the concentric neutral conductor is grounded.
The-insulation thicknesses covered in this Standard are based on the 100% insulation, level-grounded, neutral system.
This Standard applies to power cables capable of continuous operation at a maximum conductor temperature of 90°C. (See Appendix C.)
